Job summary

Are you an excellent data scientist with a clear research vision looking to secure a personal fellowship and establish your own research group? The Data Science Institute (DSI) at Imperial College wishes to nurture the next generation of outstanding researchers and invites applications for an attractive and flexible fellowship scheme for those wishing to develop an independent research career.

You will carry out, plan and lead a high-quality programme of research in Natural Language Processing and its applications, undertake project management and/or supervise multi-disciplinary teams. In addition, the Fellow will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.

Duties and responsibilities

    • To develop compelling and original research in Natural Language Processing and its applications;
    • To obtain research grants from national and international funding bodies, and obtain funding from industry where appropriate;
    • To publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals;
    • To attend and present research at international conferences;
    • To supervise postdoctoral researchers, postgraduate students and undergraduate research projects in the DSI.

Essential requirements

We are looking for researchers at any stage of their career who have:

  • A very good academic track record including a first or upper second-class degree and a PhD in in computer science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience;
  • Experience of the supervision of research of undergraduate/postgraduate students or postdoctoral staff
  • Experience in statistics, data mining, machine learning and natural language processing
  • Experience of directing the work of a small research team and motivate others to produce a high standard of work
  • Good knowledge of modern programming languages (Java, Python) and cloud computing management technology (e.g. Docker, Openstack)
