Position Summary

The Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology at Michigan State University is seeking exceptional talent to work with Hub project teams as a Senior Learning Experience Designer. The mission of the Hub is to design and deliver transformative learning experiences. The Senior Learning Experience Designer will play a pivotal role in advancing this mission by leading learning experience design projects, guiding organizational design strategy, working with University partners (e.g. faculty, staff, administrators), and mentoring team members (designers, researchers, developers, student colleagues).

To be successful in this position, you should enjoy learning new skills, working in a dynamic context, and have a passion for solving complex educational problems at the intersection of education and design. The ideal candidate will be capable of working across a number of skill sets and cross-functional teams. We seek someone with educational, user experience (UX) and/or learning experience (LX), and facilitation experience, who is capable of facilitating learning experience design in collaboration with faculty, students, and staff from any field. We also value research experience, as our work is inquiry driven.

Senior Learning Experience Designers:

  • Demonstrate deep expertise in a relevant area of learning experience design
  • Provide strategy for learning experience design projects (define the process, resources, risks, change management, and relationships with project stakeholders)
  • Contribute design/research expertise across multiple design areas
  • Provide organizational strategy across multiple design/research areas
  • Mentor others across multiple design/research areas
  • Execute design/research practices necessary for project success within processes established by project lead but in less defined problem spaces
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders
  • Contribute to developing design/research templates, checklists, and guidelines for best practices
  • Assess and document the impact of project work
  • Stay current on research regarding learning theories, online tools, design methods, and UX Research
  • Lead applied learning experience research

Minimum Requirements

Required Degree

A bachelor’s degree in design, education, curriculum, educational technology, educational psychology, instructional design communication, organizational development or related field; a background in teaching, learning experience design, and/or design; knowledge of current curricular models, instructional design frameworks, and assessment methods; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an educational setting, excellent communication skills; knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies, UX methods, and assessment or evaluation practices; ability to work well in a team environment. Likelihood of using the diversity of human experience as an educational resource in learning experience design work.

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications

 Master’s or PhD in design, higher education administration, educational psychology, educational technology, instructional design, College or University teaching experience. Coursework or training in teaching and/or design, as evidenced by graduate-level credits, certifications and/or certifications, and/or workshop facilitation experience. Experience facilitating organizational change work. Experience facilitating design sprints. Personal engagement with communities that are underrepresented in the academy and an ability to bring this into learning experience design work. Likelihood of using the diversity of human experience as an educational resource in teaching and scholarship.
