Duties and responsibilities:

• Supervise postgraduate students in the field of Ethnomusicology.
• Deliver peer-reviewed research outputs in the field of Ethnomusicology.
• Develop curricula for teaching Ethnomusicology (inclusive of a focus on African Music) at all levels of study.
• Contribute to the academic and performance activities of the Odeion School of Music.
• Facilitate academic, practical and research activities and projects in the Odeion School of Music.

Inherent requirements: 

• A Doctoral degree on NQF level ten (10) in Music, specialising in Ethnomusicology (African music).
• Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
• Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters’ students.
• A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
• Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

Recommendations: 

• Experience of teaching ethnomusicology (African music) at tertiary level.
• Proven commitment to engaged scholarship.
• A diverse skills set in the broader field of music.
• Demonstration of intent to work towards obtaining NRF rating or similar recognition for research contribution, if not held at the time of appointment
