Senior Lecturer in Italian

The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time Senior Lecturer position in Italian starting Fall 2021. This is not a tenure-track position. The teaching load is two-three courses per year, depending on enrollments. The Senior Lecturer will teach at the undergraduate level, with the possibility of teaching graduate seminars, in a program committed to excellence as well as to students’ intellectual and personal growth. M.A. in Italian or a related field required.

The successful candidate will have native or bilingual proficiency in Italian and English, a strong background in 20th and 21st century Italian literature, and a commitment to textual and cultural analysis as well as interdisciplinary approaches. We would be particularly interested in candidates with specializations in Critical Theory, Global Literature, and Gender and Sexuality Studies.

The candidate is expected to maintain a research program that inspires a highly motivated student body. Candidates must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in Italian and English. At least one academic year (9 months) of teaching experience at the university level is required and previous experience in mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred.
