Senior Lecturer, Music



Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies is currently seeking to recruit an


Senior Lecturer, Music, from August 1st 2019 or separately agreed other date after that, until further notice


The Senior Lecturer job description focuses on teaching, research, supervision and examination of theses, supervision of study plans, and duties relating to societal impact. The post also contains shared teaching of the department and faculty, development of research and teaching, applying external funding, and other possible duties required by the department or faculty. 


The Senior Lecturer is expected to have a doctoral degree in musicology or other appropriate field, as well as experience of post-doctoral research and teaching at University level. It is considered favourable for the candidate to have research and teaching merits in the fields of systematic musicology and music psychology conducted at musicology at the Department.


The duties and qualification requirements for the position of the Associate Professor are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have a full command of Finnish language. When considered appropriate, the university may grant exemption from the language proficiency requirements. In this position, the languages of instruction are Finnish and English, so the ability to teach also in English is regarded an asset.


In addition experience of administration and curriculum development at university level is regarded as a merit.


The annual salary range will be approximately 38.800 – 64.200 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.


Six months trial period is applied to the filling of the position.

Following documents must be included in Finnish or English to the electronic recruiting system:


A CV composed according to good scientific practice and considering, when possible, the template for researcher´s curriculum vitae of the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK);

A numbered list of publications covering the applicant’s the scientific and other publications according to the instructions of the Academy of Finland;

Short (2-3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s pedagogical training and teaching merits i.e. teaching portfolio;

Short (2-3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s research activities, merits in scientific work and supervision of research including acquisition of supplement funding and  responsibilities in externally funded research projects,

Short (2-3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s international activities and experience in societal interaction,

A maximum of ten publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications.
