Senior Research Associate (Fixed Term) in Faculty of Education University of Cambridge - Faculty of Education United Kingdom

The Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre within the Faculty of Education wishes to appoint a Senior Research Associate (SRA) to conduct large-scale mixed methods research and evaluation as well as innovate methodologies for the new multi-country multi-million-GBP EdTech Hub. The programme is funded by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development.


You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary group of internationally recognised researchers, within a consortium of six main partners and other organisations based in a number of low-income countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Asia and elsewhere. The aim of the research is to understand how EdTech can support education systems change, improving outcomes for all learners in a scalable and sustainable way. There will be a particular emphasis in this post on quantitative data collection and analysis.


You will be expected to work collaboratively with our international partners and undertake overseas trips for various purposes. You will also liaise with team members and be expected to lead specific research outputs under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr Sara Hennessy. You will also contribute to managing commissioned research projects.


This is a senior role with high levels of responsibility. Applicants must hold a PhD in in Education, Educational Technology, Development Studies, Economics, Psychology or other relevant social science discipline that uses mixed methods, with previous postdoctoral experience; have proven skills in quantitative and qualitative research; evidence of ability to prepare publications for peer-reviewed journals; experience of research programme management, and of managing research staff. A broad-based understanding of educational research and research methods, including in international development contexts, is desirable. The role will involve some travel to partner countries.


Appointment at SRA level is subject to approval by the Faculty of Education Faculty Board.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.

The post is full-time.
