Salary
£30942 to £40322 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is one of three departments within the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies. Applications are invited for the post of Teaching Associate in Spanish within the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American (SPLAS) section.

This role will include teaching, assessment and administration in areas with a Cuban focus. In the first instance, teaching and assessment in the first half of a year-long Final Year optional module entitled Thinking the Revolution: Ideology, Education and Culture in Cuba; the first half of a year-long First Year module entitled Modern Latin American History; and on one or more Spanish language module(s) within Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies.

The role holder will also have responsibility for the day-to-day operational running of the Centre for Research on Cuba/Cuba Research Forum including events organisation, updating blog and social media platforms, creating a database of researchers, overseeing webpage updates.

Candidates should hold a postgraduate qualification in Cuban/Latin American Studies by the start date of the post and have an advanced level of spoken and written Spanish to native of near-native fluency, along with previous experience of teaching Cuban and Latin American Studies and the Spanish language as part of degree programmes.

This is a 0.6 FTE fixed-term post (21.75 hours per week) for six months available between 1 September 2021 to 28 February 2022.
