Teaching Fellow in English Language
University of St Andrews - English Language Teaching
United Kingdom

English Language Teaching (ELT) at University of St Andrews is recruiting for two English Language Teaching Fellow positions (one standard, and one fixed-term for one year). Both these roles provide the opportunity to contribute across ELT’s broad range of teaching activities – International Foundation Programmes, in-sessional English language provision, undergraduate modules, MSc TESOL programmes, and a variety of short course offerings. There may also be opportunities to take on leadership roles in one or more of these areas.

The intended start date for these positions is 2 September 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. The fixed-term position will have an end date of August 31, 2020. Applicants should state clearly in their covering letter whether they are interested in only the standard position, only the fixed-term position, or either of these.

Why work for ELT?
ELT has developed a reputation within the UK and beyond as a centre of excellence for EAP (English for Academic Purposes) teaching, and we host an annual conference of international standing dedicated to this area of practice. Our dynamic and experienced team are involved in a wide range of educational activities, and we have a strong culture of professional development. While ELT’s primary focus is on teaching, scholarly activity relevant to the enhancement of teaching practice is also encouraged and supported financially.

The successful applicants will join ELT at an exciting time of change, as we seek to grow our short course and postgraduate provision, in line with the University’s 2018-23 strategy.

Why work at University of St Andrews?
St Andrews is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world, and is consistently one of the highest ranked institutions in the UK. The Guardian’s 2020 university league table placed St Andrews 2nd overall in the UK, narrowly behind Cambridge, and ahead of Oxford.

The town of St Andrews also offers an excellent living environment. University buildings are integrated into a picturesque seaside town that enjoys some of the sunniest weather in Scotland, and has a vibrant, international atmosphere. St Andrews’ status as the home of golf attracts many visitors over the summer, with many restaurants, bars, cafes, cultural and entertainment activities unparalleled for a town of its size.

For applicants with partners and/or families, high quality state and private schooling is available locally. Additionally, a wide range of employment possibilities exist for partners, both in St Andrews and in the nearby economic hub of Dundee.
