Applications are invited for appointment as tenure-track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Classical Chinese Literature in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 492618), to commence on September 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Direct tenure may be offered to outstanding candidates applying for the Associate Professor rank.

The ideal candidate should be committed to an active agenda of scholarly research and publication and possess expertise that can complement, reinforce and advance the programme’s strengths in the broad spectrum of Chinese classical literary studies. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of, or promise for, successful scholarly productivity. A proven track record of commitment to excellence in teaching and research is essential. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects. The selected candidate must have a Ph.D. degree by the time of appointment.


A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
