The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Los Angeles seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track/tenured position as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Brazilian Studies, specialization open. The expected start date is July 1st, 2019. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, normally four per year, in Portuguese and English in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and possibly in related interdisciplinary programs. Applicants must have completed all PhD requirements at the time of application, including doctoral dissertation or equivalent in Luso-Brazilian Literature and Culture or a related field. At the Assistant level, preference will be given to applicants demonstrating clear evidence of scholarly potential in research. At the Associate/Full Professor level, preference will be given to applicants with a distinguished record of research and publications, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching and student mentorship. Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese and English is required. Multilingual range (Spanish, Língua Geral, Guarani, Nheengatu, etc.) and ability to teach comparative courses on Brazil in a Latin American or global context are highly desirable. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Senior Assistant Professors should apply to the Assistant Professor recruitment.
