The Department of East Asian Studies seeks to appoint a University Lecturer in Chinese Language and Linguistics. We welcome applicants trained in Chinese linguistics who also have knowledge of, and experience in, language teaching, testing, syllabus design, the development of teaching materials, and language pedagogy. The ability to conduct linguistic and empirical research in L2 Chinese bilingualism/multilingualism is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Chinese language and linguistics or a related discipline and will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research. She or he will be expected to direct the modern Chinese language program; engage in high-level research; develop impact programmes outside academia; publish in their specialist field and seek opportunities to obtain external funding for that research; offer teaching and supervision on one or more of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of East Asian Studies; contribute to the growth of their specialist field and China Studies more generally; assist with running the Department's various programmes, including the organization of seminars, conferences, year abroad, and outreach activities as well as shouldering appropriate administrative duties.

The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 September 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.
