University Lecturer in Historical Linguistics

The Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Section in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics in the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in Historical Linguistics from 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter to begin teaching in October 2021.

We invite applications from candidates with outstanding research and teaching records in Historical Linguistics and demonstrable potential to excel in the field. The successful candidate will ideally hold a PhD in Linguistics, with a specialism in Historical Linguistics. They will be expected to:

  • engage in high-level research and develop their own independent research portfolio of world-class research commensurate with the international reputation of the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Section at the University of Cambridge,
  • seek opportunities to win external funding for that research,
  • publish in their specialist field,
  • be fully involved in teaching and assessment of undergraduates at all levels in lectures, seminars and small-group tutorials/supervisions,
  • supervise and examine Masters and PhD students,
  • contribute to Section and Faculty administration

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
