University Lectureship in Post-1900 Anglophone Literature and Culture
University of Cambridge Faculty of English
United Kingdom

The Faculty of English wishes to appoint to a University Lectureship in Post-1900 Anglophone Literature and Culture from 1 September 2021.

We seek applicants who have research and teaching interests in Anglophone literature and culture since 1900. We are open to a wide range of approaches, including interdisciplinary work, and research and teaching that engage with electronic media and the visual arts. This is a post in a core area of Faculty activity, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The appointee will be expected to contribute, according to their interests and expertise, to a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

Applicants with research and teaching expertise in the following fields (whether separately or combined) are especially welcome: Anglophone twentieth-century film; Black British writing; gender and sexuality, and women's writing. These are all areas of Faculty specialisation that we hope to develop further.

The successful applicant will be able to conduct original research in their field, generating new interpretations, arguments, methods and associations which will have international reach and significance. They will be expected to engage closely with the work of one or more of the research groups in the Faculty and, where appropriate to the research concerned, to develop proposals to attract significant external funding.

We intend to appoint a scholar whose work will make a substantial difference to the way in which studies in this area are pursued and who is able to develop the kinds of professional and public engagement that will maximise the impact of their research. Candidates should have a completed PhD and an exceptional record of research and publication in a relevant subject area. The successful applicant will support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence in teaching. They will be expected to offer undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision, as well as to be able to attract applications from the strongest PhD candidates worldwide.

This Lectureship is supported by the Gorley Putt Fund and entitled the Gorley Putt Lectureship.
