A separate unit within Aalto University, the Language Centre, is responsible for the teaching of language and communication skills for the bachelor, master’s and doctoral students of Aalto University. In addition, the Language Centre provides language services such as language and communication skills training and translation and language checking for university units and employees while actively developing the teaching of languages and communication and language services of the university.

Job description
The position is teaching-focused. The teaching position will entail teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and integrated studies for students at Aalto University. Essential duties include the development of course contents and teaching methods to meet the needs of the various fields studied at Aalto University.


Required qualifications
Successful candidates are required to have a master’s degree in English Philology / Applied Linguistics / TESOL or equivalent, and excellent teaching skills. A doctoral degree is an additional merit.


Other required qualifications include experience of teaching at a higher education institution, teacher training or corresponding pedagogical training, experience of teaching languages and communication for specific purposes and experience of teaching in higher education, and good knowledge of using information and communication technology in teaching along with experience in working with alternative learning environments.


In addition, candidates are expected to have broad-based skills in the essential duties of the position, a research-oriented approach to the development of teaching as well as wide-ranging teaching merits. Extensive experience with teaching academic communication is considered an additional merit as well as experience with content and language integrated learning (CLIL).


We are seeking open-minded candidates who have a drive for teaching and a strong commitment to the development of the Language Centre, as well as interest and aptitude for collaboration at many levels.


Working hours
Aalto University’s teaching and research staff work under an annual hours contract of 1 624 hours per academic year.


Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish Universities.
