GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Reporting to UCEAP’s Associate Vice Provost & Executive Director, and in close collaboration with the Program Director in UCEAP’s Systemwide Office in Santa Barbara, CA, UC faculty will be hosted through a UC-Yonsei visiting professor program to promote increased cooperation in teaching, collaboration, and research of mutual interest between the two institutions. Yonsei will host up to 20 UC visiting professors until the program ends in June 2026.

FACULTY DISCIPLINES PREFERRED FOR THIS POSITION
Korean Studies, World-Literature, World-History, and World-Philosophy are preferred. Liberal Arts College includes: American Studies, Anthropology, Art and Cultural Heritage, Asian Studies, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Communication and Culture, Computer Science, Development Studies, Economics, Environmental Studies, European Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Global Studies, History, International Relations, Japan Studies, Language Education, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Mathematics, Media and Society, Media, Music, Peace Studies, Philosophy and Religion, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Public Policy, Sociology. Other fields will be considered depending on the proposed course.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Visiting Professor - English

TEACHING
The Visiting Professor is required to teach one course (three credits) which is available to both UCEAP and Yonsei students. Additionally, the Visiting Professor may be asked to provide independent study options for students.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
This position is a UCEAP Visiting Professorship rather than a UC Faculty Directorship. The UC Visiting Professor has significant responsibility for being easily accessible for the students’ academic concerns. The UC Visiting Professor must also be willing, as requested, to intervene in any crisis involving UC students.

Please note, Yonsei will separately collect documents from the Visiting Professor appointees, including separate application forms, diploma and transcripts, personal information collection and usage agreement, privacy and security statement, and agreement to submit to a background check.

COMPENSATION

Replacement Funds to Campus Department
Appointee remains on their home campus department payroll and continues to receive regular salary from the home department.

• UCEAP will provide the home campus with replacement funds in the total amount of $18,333 for each one-quarter appointment term, with appropriate adjustment for a semester campus appointment. The home department will provide instructions to UCEAP for the transfer of funds.

• Benefits are provided in accordance with applicable University policies and are administered by each UC campus. UCEAP does not reimburse the home campus for any costs related to benefits or sabbatical accrual.

Travel

• UCEAP will provide individual airfare at lowest economy rate per pre-approved UCEAP Travel quote to and from California and the Korea for the term of residency. Additional baggage/shipping fees will be reimbursed for actual expenses up to $500.

• Transportation to and from work is the responsibility of the Visiting Professor.

Travel insurance coverage is provided by UC http://www.ucop.edu/risk-services/loss-prevention-control/travel-assistance/index.html.

Housing
Housing is provided by Yonsei University at no cost to the Visiting Professor and will consist of one faculty apartment on or near the main campus.

Visa/Residency Permit(s)
Costs to obtain or renew a visa/residency permit will be reimbursed by UCEAP (receipts are required). UCEAP does not process Visa applications.
