The literary-scientific subproject "Divided Emotions" examines drafts of belonging in transcultural contemporary Berlin literature and views them as a critical examination of the plurality of social coexistence. Language is constitutive of feelings of belonging and often becomes an object of its own in multilingual, transcultural texts, but it also determines the forms of literary reflection and criticism in its dialogicity. Following on from Bachtin, the double semantics of "sharing" emphasizes the affective dynamics that make language a dialogical and relational event. In this sense, feelings as part of communicative processes are always shared feelings. The subproject investigates Berlin literature with a view to concrete places, ways of life and institutions; Starting point is the assumption that drafts of belonging are always historically, spatially and socially situated. As part of the project, a dissertation project on 'transcultural Berlin literature since 1989/90' is to be developed and carried out.
